Abstract
BB93 aims to: Provide a regulatory framework for the acoustic design of schools in support of the Building Regulations, Give supporting advice and recommendations for planning and design of schools and, Provide a comprehensive guide for architects, acousticians, building control officers, building services engineers, clients, and others involved in the design of new school buildings. The exemption of LEA maintained schools from the Building Regulations ended in April 2001 and all school buildings are now subject to detailed design checks and on-site inspections by Building Control Bodies.

Since June 2007 now known as the Department for Children, Schools and Families. In 1999 the Department for Education and Skills took over the Department for Education and Employment. They continued to produce the building bulletins and other design guidance to support the construction of school facilities.
