Abstract

Automated teller machines (ATMs) are being installed throughout the world by financial and retail institutions. These guidelines are based on comprehensive ergonomic research and testing, and give recommendations and suggestions for designing ATMs to meet the needs of the majority of the population. They offer guidance for those who design, install, operationally maintain and sanction planning applications for ATMs and provide design guidance for the industry that addresses the obligations of manufacturers and installers under existing legislation and design principles for making reasonable provision for disabled people in the design of ATMs.
