Abstract

Supports those interested in using forward modelling to assist sub-surface radar surveys. Forward modelling (or predictive modelling) is using computational techniques to simulate sub-surface radar surveys. The primary focus is finite difference time domain (FDTD) modelling. Forward modelling can be used to improve the planning of surveys, the interpretation of survey data and client’s understanding of the use of radar. Presents guidance on setting up, undertaking the modelling, tips, tricks, and examples of modelling. Much of the guidance applies to modelling other non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques. Parts of the guide will be useful when starting modelling, other parts will provide support when some familiarity with modelling has been achieved.
