Abstract

Special issue examines a variety of projects including: timber and steel boathouse cantilevered over the River Thames, with glass facade and copper clad hull; total replacement of the external envelope of a shopping centre in Rotterdam, now known as the Churchill Centre; upgrading of the Enschede Transport Interchange, Netherlands, including reconstruction of the bus station, refurbishment of the railway station and accommodation for trams, buses and cars and with special features including electronically controlled display boards on masts and a stoa [meeting place] with a glass roof; urban regeneration strategy to reduce congestion and create a pedestrian environment in Wembley, London, as a gateway to the new stadium and improve the transport interchange; two footbridges in Cardiff Bay's Graving Docks, one bridge is clad in rigidised stainless steel, the other in PVC fabric mesh; loft flat for pop star with moveable storage pods, roof terrace reached by a folded plate glass stair and hydraulically opening rooflight to provide daylighting.
