Architects' Journal Construction Study
Glaxo Wellcome headquarters office at Greenford, west London, has a fully glazed facade with sun control equipment within the facade cavity, and a true thermal flue wall system. Client's request for transparency, and desire not to exclude daylight, led to the use of clear glass. Rooflights in the atrium also act as smoke vents, so the building has been accepted as a single fire compartment. Combination of single outer leaf and inner double glazed sheets gives good acoustic attenuation. Architects, Engineers: RMJM. Facade Engineers: Arup Facade Engineering.
First produced in 1895, the Architects' Journal features comprehensive building studies, and in-depth technical articles.
