Abstract
Earlier work on the role of the primer in securing satisfactory performance of sealants between porous surfaces under wet conditions showed that polyvinylidene chloride used as a primer promoted sealants' resistance to water. This paper reports studies on the effect of this primer on a range of sealants in wet conditions, and considers the potential for improving the performance of sealants by adding other compounds to the primer. It will be of interest to specifiers of building sealants and to designers of building joints.
