Digest
The internal atmosphere in a heated indoor swimming pool can be extremely damp. The Building Research Establishment has encountered many cases where condensation has occurred within the roof. Successful roof design demands much more rigorous consideration of condensation risks than is needed for roofs of other buildings. Although other designs are possible, this Digest provides a procedure specifically for warm-deck roofs. Design procedures may seem complicated so the reader is led through successive steps to design a warm-deck roof in which condensation risk is minimised. Alternative flat roof designs are also discussed but it is concluded that the warm-deck roof is preferred. This digest can be used to design roofs for new pools and to solve problems which have occurred in roofs in existing pools.
