Abstract

Intended to remind and inform designers and site supervisory staff of ways of avoiding some of the most troublesome defects which have beset Local Authority housing. This Defect Action Sheet covers windows and doors: reconstituted stone non-structural components, 'plastic' repair using Portland cement mortar - specification. Failures discussed include shrinkage cracking and loss of adhesion of mortar patch. Defects discussed include patch material too strong for background; inadequate preparation of material surrounding patch; and inadequate key.
