Abstract
Intended to remind and inform designers and site supervisory staff of ways of avoiding some of the most troublesome defects which have beset Local Authority housing. This Defect Action Sheet covers floors: cement-based screeds - specification. Failures discussed include shrinkage-cracking and curling; crushing of screeds under flooring; reduced impact sound resistance; and damp-staining of wall plaster. Defects discussed include incorrect specification of mix, screed thickness, curing and drying; lack of design provision to maintain isolation of floating screeds; and wet screed in contact with wall plaster.
