Abstract

The second-generation Eurocode prEN 1994-1-1 introduces a revised model for assessing punching shear resistance in composite slabs, replacing the previous approach outlined in BS EN 1994-1-1:2004. The new model distinguishes between shear resistance parallel and transverse to the span of profiled steel sheeting, incorporating contributions from both concrete and steel decking. Notably, the critical perimeter for punching shear has been redefined, resulting in reduced dimensions and clearer differentiation between slab directions. While the updated rules offer improved clarity, they demand more detailed calculations.
