Abstract

Gathers information from a range of 64 Guidance Notes covering the design and construction of structural steelwork for bridges. The various sections cover: design - general, design - detailing, materials and products, contract documentation, fabrication, inspection and testing, erection and in-situ construction work, and protective treatment. This updated version revises all Notes to reflect changes in reference standards and refinements in construction practice, including updated guidance on BS EN 1090-2 and new Notes on design for operation and maintenance, hybrid girders, and considerations for low-carbon design. It retains reference to the Specification for Highway Works (SHW) Series 1800 Structural Steelwork in place of the earlier SBC Model Project Specification (SCI publication P382), though guidance in P382 remains valid for projects not using the SHW
