Architects' Journal Working Details
Describes the refurbishment of rooms at The Goodenough Club, a four-star hotel within Goodenough College in Bloomsbury, housed in Grade II-listed Georgian townhouses*. The project aimed to preserve and enhance historic character while improving layouts and integrating modern amenities. A cohesive design palette was developed, featuring bespoke freestanding furniture, concealed services, and wall panelling to maintain the rooms' distinctive character. Extensive research informed material selection, balancing heritage requirements with durability, including linseed oil-stained birch ply, oak frames, and five complementary colour schemes to unify the refurbishment while reflecting the site’s historic identity.
First produced in 1895, the Architects' Journal features comprehensive building studies, and in-depth technical articles.
