Abstract
Discusses Nex Architecture design of a distinctive restaurant for Duke of York Square, London, following an international competition commissioned by Cadogan. The spiral-shaped structure, formed by a slender concrete wall, creates a dynamic presence with large openings that enhance connectivity to the square, while a publicly accessible roof garden adds to its appeal. Inside, sculptural arches and retractable curved glass panels, counterweighted like a sash window, maximize transparency and openness. As the world’s first retractable curved glass system, the design balances refined aesthetics with structural innovation, utilizing powder-coated steel, stainless steel mullions, and low-iron glass for strength and clarity.
