Abstract
Outlines the findings of a study on the embodied carbon of a 6-storey residential building. Compares two construction approaches: a reinforced concrete frame with light steel infill walls and the same concrete frame with blockwork infill walls. The study follows the embodied carbon data and methodology detailed in the 2nd Edition of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) publication, ‘How to Calculate Embodied Carbon’, and the results are evaluated against IStructE ‘SCORS’ ratings and the London Energy Transformation Initiative (LETI) targets. Comprehensive details of the study can be found in SCI report RT1947 (November 2023).
