Abstract

An overview of the manufacture and characteristics of basic types of wood-based panels and some speciality products derived from them. It addresses plywood, particleboard, oriented strand boards and fibre building boards, and CE marking/harmonised standards.

History

BM TRADA timber publications are no longer maintained following the closure of BM TRADA's publishing operation on 31 December 2024. July 2022 revision with minimal amendments. Supersedes the December 2020 edition. First published 1999; revised 2003, 2012, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022.

BM TRADA originates during the 1930s when a forerunner of what later became the Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA) was set up to promote the use of wood in construction. Their publishing programme delivers an extensive range of timber information - Eurocode 5 guidance, span tables, Wood Information Sheets and technical manuals on timber structures, characteristics, performance aspects such as fire and durability, and common applications.
