Abstract
Summarises the final national evaluation of the City Challenge programme which ran from 1991/92 until 1998 with the aim of transforming specific rundown inner city areas and improving significantly the quality of life of local residents. Comprises the first comprehensive assessment of the impact and cost-effectiveness of a large-scale, holistic, partnership-based, area-targeted regeneration programme.
