Provides information for non-specialists about lighting for most constituent areas of communal residential buildings; including student residences at a university, hostels, children’s homes, residential homes for the elderly, nursing homes, hospices, NHS staff accommodation or school boarding houses. Does not cover hotels and bed and breakfast establishments, barracks and related secure accommodation.

The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers received its Royal Charter in 1976.
