Abstract
Provides guidance on the emergency use of lifts or escalators for evacuation and fire and rescue service operations. It provides guidance on: the factors that should be considered by building designers, approvers and building operators and managers; the process to be adopted when considering the adoption of lifts or escalators for emergency evacuation; the use of these in both new and existing buildings and for fire and certain non-fire incidents, such as Imminent Catastrophic Events (ICE). ICEs are where there is some warning of a significant non-fire threat to a building.
