Architects' Journal Building Study
Focuses on Hazelwood school, located in the leafy suburb of Dumbreck, Glasgow. There is a very particular and challenging brief with this project - this is a school which caters for children with dual-sensory impairment - and a very specific site. Hazelwood school is a long, low building which wraps around mature trees and stays at ground level to ensure it does not spoil the neighbours' views. Siberian larch was used to construct the building and the long sinuous curving walls are clad in 'traditional' Glasgow tenemental roof slate. Architect: Gordon Murray and Alan Dunlop Architects.
First produced in 1895, the Architects' Journal features comprehensive building studies, and in-depth technical articles.
