Provides guidance on the selection and use of escape route signs conforming to BS 5499-1 provided as fire safety signs within buildings, which satisfies the requirements of the Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996 (SI No. 341) and existing fire safety legislation. Also gives advice on the use of the appropriate graphical symbol, the use of supplementary text to assist in the interpretation of signs and the use of arrows to provide additional directional information. Covers: system design; sign type; sign size and viewing distance; construction: durability and suitability; servicing and maintenance.
