Abstract
New headquarters offices and a staff amenity centre for Saga, at Sandgate, near Folkestone, Kent. The amenity centre, or 'Pavilion', housing a restaurant and other facilities, has a tensioned fabric roof. The main building has stair towers with glass block walls. Offices at the rear look into an atrium cum conservatory space which has a south-facing, single-glazed, planar glass 'climate wall'. It is a low energy building which uses natural ventilation. Description of the structure and services of the pavilion and of the office building by Dervilla Mitchell and John Berry of Ove Arup & Partners. Cost analysis. Working details of a steel roof support node. Architects: Michael Hopkins & Partners.
