Digest
Masonry buildings, like any others, can suffer damage through accident or long neglect and as the result of deficiencies in design, materials or workmanship. This Digest lists the causes of damage and summarises methods of repair. Its aim is not to over-emphasise the liability of brickwork and blockwork to damage but to point out certain risks that can be avoided and, more particularly, to indicate any special precautions that can be taken in the course of repair work to prevent recurrence. This Digest is concerned with damage to small buildings, generally domestic, for which foundations are at shallow depth and settlement due to overloading the soil is unlikely.
