Defect Action Sheet
Abstract
Intended to remind and inform designers and site supervisory staff of ways of avoiding some of the most troublesome defects which have beset Local Authority housing. This Defect Action Sheet covers inward-opening external doors: resistance to rain penetration. Failures discussed include rain penetration leading to wetting and deterioration of internal flooring and floor coverings; and flooded mat wells. Defects discussed include rain-check grooves between door leaf and frame absent or too small; waterbar on cill set too far forward; and poorly designed trough cills.
